“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
Benjamin Franklin
Our purpose is to prevent the events that require the “pound of cure” by informing the viewer of the actions that constitute the “ounce of prevention.”
In the wilderness, it’s the prevention of the events that lead to an emergency such as the hiker who wanders off the trail, becomes lost, runs out of water and dies of dehydration. Or the good Samaritan that encounters a flooded stream and seeing a person being carried downstream, dives in to save the victim, thereby becoming a second victim.
An emergency usually develops by making a number of small decisions that turn out to be bad ones. These small decisions accumulate and result in a major problem. If we can add to the collective knowledge so that a person in the wilderness makes the correct small decisions so an emergency event does not develop, then we have accomplished our goal.
